Principals Report – Heather Halibu

  • Supply distribution – Recorders ordered for all 4th graders and instruments delivered for 5th graders; Some people were not able to make it so they will be able to pick up information.
  • Assembly coming up by Lighthouse team
  • NWEA results will be sent home with report letters electronically
  • Dicken has a principal’s Twitter account, but nothing by the PTO. PTO has a Facebook page.
    • Recommend sharing posts and pictures of kids doing school activities
  • Readathon – staff on board but caution that we make sure that families don’t feel too much pressure to give.

New Business & Reports: Jen Miller

  • Dicken Scavenger Hunt – selected winners of gift cards (donations from last year’s auction). We will compile pictures and send out message to winners with recognition to businesses that donated.
  • SpiritWear – Tammy Bauer presented the selected company, design, items for purchase and order process. This will be promoted and go out this week with deadline of 11.24 for orders. We may also look at doing another order in the Spring.
  • Teacher expenses – PTO reimbursing Ms. Erikson for the Winter Walk luminary supplies for Art Class; Mr. Meijer requested a camera and we purchased recorders for Music.
  • PTO online presence – Jess is helping with the Facebook page and Jen Miller is working on a PTO website.  Discussed ideas for content for the Facebook page.
  • Teacher Appreciation – recommendation from Jessica Posey to send virtual gift cards. Each teach can choose to give out their address if they’d like, so parents can send physical gifts.
  • The Noodles fundraiser is for December, not November.
  • Readathon – Starts on Sunday and runs through 11.30. Hallie shared the donation site that was set up to track minutes and donations. Considering prizes (ex. bookseller gift card) for highest number of minutes read.

Report- Outs:

Treasurer – Agustina Fragner

  • P & L reviewed. See attached.

Teacher Liaison – Jessica Posey

  • Lauren York, building literacy expert, requested help from PTO to gather books that can be distributed to kids who need more books to read at home. Specific need for Y5-1 grade. We need a date and drop off location.
  • Explored formal newsletters (ex. smores) option. Too expensive for all but will recommend to the interested teacher that she consider a grant.
  • Working on read-aloud story on equity, Ron’s big mission, for all grades in November. Parents may want to ask their kids about this book.
  • Started an equity team to collect additional books. Ms. Halibu will add a section to the newsletter to provide updates on books and activities (ex. Dear Nice White Parents podcast).
